Maria Sierra

Family Advocate

Maria Sierra has been a Joshua Station Family Advocate since June 2004. She was born and raised in Denver, CO, graduating from Denver Business College with her AAS in Criminal Justice and most recently receiving her BA in Chicano Studies from Metro State College in December, 2012.

Maria has worked with families in low income housing ranging from tax credit properties to transitional housing since 1993. She brings a thorough knowledge of the Denver social service systems, having worked with the Denver Public School District and currently sits on West Denver Prep Board of Directors.

Maria’s life began to change the moment she walked into Joshua Station in 2004. She has grown and learned so much about life and its challenges. It’s very challenging to work with people and walk with them in their struggles but she receives more from them than they do from Maria.

One of the things Maria hopes for is to see Metro Denver and the people living in it not struggle to meet the basic needs of their families. She hopes for opportunities for families to truly experience life and not just navigate through their struggles.
