National Charity League Spruces Counseling Rooms @ JS

National Charity League (NCL) is a mother-daughter philanthropic organization for girls in the 7th-12th grades. The Rocky Mountain Chapter of NCL partners with approximately twenty philanthropic organizations around the Denver metro area to provide opportunities for mothers and daughters to volunteer in the community. Each year, the senior class selects one philanthropy for a senior project. The goal is for the girls to choose a project that will make a lasting impression and involve as many members of the class as possible. This year, the senior class of 2016 voted to give a face lift to the two counseling rooms at Joshua Station.

During the spring, NCL assessed the needs for each room. Measurements were taken and NCL asked what Joshua Station would like to improve these rooms. The goal was to create attractive counseling rooms to greater facilitate the needs of the families living at Joshua Station within a budget of $500. A grant was written to purchase items, donations were acquired and NCL members purchased some items out of pocket to complete the project. On June 14th, nine mother-daughter pairs descended on Joshua Station for eight hours. Julie-Anne, the volunteer coordinator for Joshua Station, provided a tour of the facility and explained how they create a supportive community to benefit the families who live there.

The second floor counseling room was painted and reorganized. New chairs, a rug, lamp, curtains and supplies were then placed in the room. The first floor counseling room will undergo a similar transformation on July 26th. The NCL Rocky Mountain Chapter class of 2016 is honored to serve Joshua Station!
